The Independent Learning Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) in Indonesia reflects a shift in education toward a holistic understanding of human life and existence, which resonates with the philosophical tenets of Martin Heidegger’s ontology. This paper conducts an intellectual and existential analysis of the Kurikulum Merdeka to address the persistent theory–practice gap in educational management. Although the curriculum promotes flexibility and student-centered learning, its implementation continues to face several challenges, including disparities in resources, unclear operational guidelines, and the persistent dominance of quantitative evaluation methods. Heideggerian ontology offers a crucial existential dimension by viewing the student as Dasein, a being conscious of its presence and meaning in the world, and by understanding education as a process of becoming an authentic human being rather than merely a means of career preparation. By bringing these perspectives together, educational management can move beyond a mechanistic paradigm. Educational administrators can integrate data-based accountability informed by positivism, accommodate contextual plurality associated with postmodernism, and cultivate existential reflection grounded in Heideggerian ontology. The analysis shows that Heidegger’s emphasis on authentic understanding, contextual awareness, and experiential learning provides a necessary framework to ensure that the Kurikulum Merdeka is implemented as a transformative praxis that liberates individuals and addresses a profound philosophical gap in educational policy.
